Artist's Profile

Stephan Ander, born 1983 in Vienna, studied classical Viennese Zither with Prof. Hannelore Laister at the Vienna Conservatory, gaining early recognition for his rare instrument at the national young musicians' competition Prima La Musica.

Ander has been working as a soloist as well as with orchestras, other artists and diverse ensembles, performing at renowned stages across Europe and Asia. He has made solo appearances with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestry, Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Symphonia Vienna, under conductors such as Ingo Metzmacher, Christian Arming, Peter Guth or Raphael Schlüsselberg. Ander has performed at Wiener Musikverein, the Vienna State Opera, the Vienna Lifeball, Tokyo Suntory Hall, the Imperial Residence in Tokyo, among others.

Stephan is showcasing the zither and e-zither, the fully electrified 21st-century version of the zither, as a modern and versatile concert instrument. Baroque and Classical literature form a pillar of his repertoire besides modern works of Pop, Electronic and Crossover.
